House, chillout and disco in Almuñécar – and a little further afield

Looking for a DJ, a dance floor and music that is not just background music? Almuñécar is a small town, and there is only one real nightclub: The Big Bang Ocean Club with its beach terrace Arena Beach. In La Herradura there is a beach club with sunset and DJ. Here are the best options in Almuñécar first, and then the few beach clubs on the coast that are worth the trip, with distances and getting home.

Fact-checked 02-11-2026

Checked against The Big Bang Ocean Club's own website (programme, opening hours and Halloween party 31-10-2026, as they appeared in search results), the Junta de Andalucía's tourism website andalucia.org, Bambú Club's Instagram and Facebook (as seen in search results), Ocean Club Marbella's own website, The Seaside Gazette, salsero.es and the Junta de Andalucía's rules on opening hours and taxi fares (BOJA 12-03-2026). Internet access was limited: we could only read search results, not the pages themselves. In a new check on 02-11-2026 (Kontoret), the nightclub's own website could be opened: the opening hours and the weekly type of programme are confirmed there. DJ Kelman could not be confirmed and has been removed. Instagram and Facebook have not been checked. The most recent event we could see dated outside the venue's own website was a salsa party on 30-11-2025 (salsero.es). What we could not confirm: regular nights with house, deep house, disco or funk – no source mentions them in Almuñécar or La Herradura. Nor could we confirm entry prices, Bambú Club's opening hours and music genres or the programme for summer 2027.

Honestly about the music

We have searched thoroughly for regular nights with house, deep house, real disco and funk in Almuñécar and La Herradura. We have not found a single source that mentions them. There are DJs, but the music is mostly commercial, Latin and reggaeton, and chillout in the afternoon. According to The Seaside Gazette, the town had no nightclub at all in 2017, before The Big Bang Ocean Club opened. The classic Kasbah nightclub in La Herradura closed in March 2024 after 57 years.

If you are looking for house and electronic music at a high level, you need to go to the big beach clubs further along the coast in summer. See the bottom of the page.

The Big Bang Ocean Club and Arena Beach

The town's only nightclub is in Los Bajos, the premises beneath Paseo del Altillo facing Playa Puerta del Mar. The address is Bajos del Paseo del Altillo 7 (one listing says no. 15). The venue opened at Midsummer 2017. It consists of the nightclub itself and the beach terrace Arena Beach. The Junta de Andalucía's tourism website describes Arena Beach as a beach club with a bar, DJ, VIP area and chillout sofas facing the sea.

The club describes itself as a nightclub and beach club with sunset sessions, DJs, concerts, themed parties and guest DJs all year round. Checked on the club's own website 02-11-2026: the venue is open and calls itself «Discoteca, Beach Club y Tardeo». The current opening hours are Sunday–Thursday 15–04 and Friday–Saturday 15–07. According to the website, every week there are DJ nights, themed parties, guest DJs and seasonal parties, from sunset sessions in the afternoon to clubbing at night.

Music and nights (autumn 2026)

  • Afternoon from 15: sunset and chillout on the Arena Beach terrace (the opening time from 15 every day is on the club's website 02-11-2026).
  • Sunday: tardeo (a party from afternoon into evening) with salsa, bachata and kizomba, and a concert at 22.
  • Monday at 22: concert.
  • Summer 2025: live concerts Sunday to Thursday 22–24 according to the club's offers page.
  • Weekend nights: DJ and dancing until morning. What music is played is not stated in the programme. One reviewer mentions reggaeton.

The programme changes. See bigbangoceanclub.com/proximos-eventos, the club's Facebook page and Instagram (@thebigbangoceanclub) and the salsa account @thebigbangsalsa. VIP tables are booked on tel. +34 699 77 42 37 according to the club's own website.

Reviewers on Google give around 4 out of 5. The complaints concern the bouncers, the price of drinks and an entry fee to dance in the afternoon, which one guest was not prepared for. We have not been able to confirm the entry price.

La Herradura: Bambú Club – sunset and DJ

Bambú Club (also called Bamboo Beach Club) is at Paseo Andrés Segovia 48, on the seafront promenade in La Herradura, approx. 10 km from Playa Tropical. On its Instagram the venue calls itself a beach club with "sunset & night party", and it took bookings for New Year's Eve 2025, so it is also open outside the summer. Guest reviews mention good DJs, cocktails, a saltwater pool and live music at sunset. Which genres and nights are involved is not stated in anything we have been able to read.

Programme: Instagram @bambuclublaherradura and Facebook.

Right next door is La Cochera (no. 45) with live bands: jazz, rhythm & blues, pop, rock and Celtic music. It is not DJ music, but people do dance. Read more in La Herradura in the evening.

Chillout and sunset without a dance floor

If you would rather have a quiet drink with lounge music and a view, there are a couple of options in Almuñécar:

  • Arena Beach in the afternoon and at sunset (see above).
  • Bombay Sky Bar on the roof of Hotel Playa San Cristóbal: chillout and cocktails with a view according to almunecarinfo.com. Opening hours not confirmed. According to a travel portal the bar was closed from October 2022 to June 2023, so expect it to be open in summer only.
  • Restaurante Calabajío has a chillout area and serves cocktails until late according to andalucia.org. Not dated.

Worth the trip: beach clubs on the coast

Here are the few places known for DJs and a sunset atmosphere. They are all seasonal, in summer. Remember that you must not drive after drinking alcohol. The blood alcohol limit in Spain is 0,5.

Sunahra Beach Club, Playa Granada (Motril) – approx. 20 km

Beach club at Paseo Playa de Poniente 6 by Playa Granada, west of Motril harbour. It has DJ sets, live music, themed parties and a "sunset deck" according to the travel portal TripAligner. We have not found a programme for 2026. Drive approx. 20 minutes east along the A-7. Getting home: taxi (approx. 20 km) – agree the price before you set off.

Ocean Club, Marbella – approx. 138 km

Ocean Club at Puerto Banús is one of the best-known beach clubs on the Costa del Sol, with a pool, DJs and themed nights. The 2026 season ran from the beginning of May to a closing party on 3 October 2026, with regular Friday and Sunday nights among other things, according to the club's own events page. It is approx. 1½ hours' drive each way. Getting home the same night is not realistic without a driver who is not drinking, so plan an overnight stay in Marbella. We have not looked into accommodation in Marbella in this article.

Torremolinos and Málaga also have beach clubs with DJs in summer (including Tropicana in Torremolinos and El Balneario in Málaga), but we have not been able to confirm their programmes. Granada and Málaga with flamenco, tapas and overnight stays can be found in Worth the trip: Granada, Nerja and Málaga.

Good advice

  • Arrive late. The dance floor only fills up after 1–2 at weekends. In the afternoon there is tardeo.
  • Bring ID. Nightclubs may not admit anyone under 16, and many will ask to see ID. Alcohol is not sold to anyone under 18.
  • Dress. Nightclubs can refuse entry (derecho de admisión). We have not found a written dress code for Big Bang, but leave the swimwear at home at night.
  • Check the programme on the day. See Instagram and Facebook. In winter it may be closed on weekdays.
  • Keep an eye on your glass. Never leave your drink unattended. See Nightlife – practical guide.
  • Taxi home. At night the Junta de Andalucía's night rate for journeys between towns applies (rate 8: 0,82 € (≈ 6,12 kr.) per km in 2026).
  • Do's & don'ts. Read the most important rules on alcohol, driving and safety in the nightlife overview.
