Live music, flamenco and karaoke in Almuñécar

The best music in Almuñécar is heard in summer under the open sky. Jazz en la Costa in El Majuelo park in July is known throughout Spain, and there is flamenco, free concerts on the beach and big concerts during the town festival in August. The rest of the year, live bands play at a couple of pubs in town and in La Herradura. Here is what we have been able to confirm, and where to find the programme.

Fact-checked 02-11-2026

Checked against The Seaside Gazette (05-2026), Euro Weekly News (13-09-2026, 21-04-2026 and 13-05-2026), festivalesdeespana.com, taquilla.com, Almuñécar Council's festival programme 2026 (via COPE 29-07-2026), Almuñécar Council (Noches en Azul), The Big Bang Ocean Club's own website, costatropical.com and almunecarinfo.com. Internet access was limited: we could only read search results, not the pages themselves. What we could not confirm: the programme for Jazz en la Costa 2027, a peña flamenca (flamenco club) in Almuñécar, regular flamenco nights at bars in 2026, and a karaoke bar that is still open.

Jazz en la Costa – July in El Majuelo

Jazz en la Costa is one of Spain's oldest jazz festivals. In 2026 it was held for the 39th time, from 21–26 July on the stage in the botanical garden Parque El Majuelo, below the castle and by the ruins of the Roman fish-salting factory. Tickets cost 25–60 € (≈ 448 kr.) and went on sale on 1 June at jazzenlacosta.es.

The 2026 programme was Paquito D'Rivera Quintet (21/7), Joe Lovano Paramount Quartet (22/7), Chico Freeman & Francesca Tandoi Trio (23/7), Erik Truffaz and Antonio Lizana (24/7), Jacky Terrasson Trio (25/7) and Roberto Fonseca (26/7).

After the concerts the night continues with Trasnoches de Jazz: jam sessions and concerts in bars and squares in the old town. They are usually free, but one source from 2025 mentions a price of 25 € (≈ 186 kr.), so check the programme.

In autumn there is more jazz: Ciclo de Jazz on 18–20 September 2026 at 20, with tickets from Azul Marino Viajes, at the box office in the Casa de la Cultura and from Bravo Entradas according to Euro Weekly News. In 2025 there was also an autumn jazz festival on 9–11 October.

Flamenco

Almuñécar is not a flamenco town like Granada, and we have not found a peña flamenca (flamenco club) in the town. But there is flamenco in summer:

  • Caña Flamenca Costa Tropical: a flamenco festival on the coast from 15 July–31 August 2026, with El Majuelo among the venues according to festivalesdeespana.com.
  • Venta Luciano, Carretera del Suspiro, approx. 3 km outside town: flamenco show with dinner on Fridays from 20 in a large Andalusian farmhouse above the town, with flamenco since 1956, according to the venue's listings on almunecarinfo.com and costatropical.com. Book a table and ask about the next date. None of the sources is dated.
  • Chiringuito El Tesorillo at Playa del Tesorillo is called "the only place with a flamenco show all year round" by almunecarinfo.com. The source is not dated.

Call or ask before you go. If you want to experience genuine flamenco in the caves of Sacromonte, Granada is worth the trip: see Worth the trip: Granada.

Karaoke

We have not been able to find a karaoke bar in Almuñécar or La Herradura that we can confirm is open in 2026. The well-known "Kasbah Discoteca Karaoke" in La Herradura closed in March 2024. A single review mentions karaoke at a tardeo at a chiringuito in Velilla, but we have not been able to find it again. If you know of a place, write to us via the contact page.

Free concerts: the beach and the town festival

In summer the council holds Noches en Azul with free concerts and outdoor films on the beaches of Almuñécar and La Herradura (see Beach bars in the evening).

During the town festival for the Virgen de la Antigua from 9–15 August there are free concerts every evening in the Caseta Oficial. In 2026 the performers included Antonio José, Rosa López, Café Quijano, Laura Gallego and El Arrebato, and there were five free concerts at the daytime feria. The festival ends on 15 August with the sea procession and a big musical firework display. Read more in Virgen de la Antigua – Almuñécar's big festival in August and in the festival calendar.

Good advice

  • Buy jazz tickets early. The best-known names sell out. Ticket sales usually start in June.
  • Bring a cushion and a jumper to the concerts in El Majuelo. The chairs are hard, and it can get cool late in the evening.
  • The concerts start late. Expect 22 or later, and for them to go on until after midnight.
  • Check Facebook on the day. Small pubs post their programme on Facebook and often change it.
  • Walk home. There is a lit promenade all the way from El Majuelo to Velilla. Otherwise take a taxi from the bus station.
  • Do's & don'ts. Read the most important rules on alcohol, driving and safety in the nightlife overview.
